dGB launched a Competition for students developing OpendTect plugins. The winner will receive $2.000 and the runner-up $ 500. Entries must be received before 1 Sep. 2005. Results will be announced at 75th SEG in Houston, Nov. 2005.

OpendTect is now also supported on Mac-OS/X. Other highlights: Depth survey support and a new volume rendering engine. The Ark-cls plugin is upgraded to support well data I/O and with neural networks plugin it is possible to directly convert seismic data to well log properties, e.g. for creating a porosity volume. Today Kristofer has received his PhD. His thesis covered "Semi-automated detection and extraction of seismic objects". Kristofer's research at the Goteborg university, Sweden, has been sponsored by dGB. Much of his work has become part of OpendTect.
