For a dataset of good quality with only small and low variance dips the BG Fast Steering method performs well enough. With a median filtering with stepout 1 1 3 applied, the result is already very acceptable.
For a poor quality dataset one of the FFT algorithms should be used, because the BG Fast Steering algorithm is sensitive to noise and will produce too much outliers. A small vertical filtering might also help to improve the results.
For detailed studies at target level one can consider to apply the precise FFT algorithm to a sub volume at the area of interest.
When creating a chrono-stratigraphy, the Event Steering is the one to use because it looks for similar events (min, max) on neighbouring traces in inline/crossline direction.
